Intersessional Meetings of the States Parties of the AP Mine Ban Convention
19 June 2023 saw the commencement of the Intersessional Meetings of the State Parties of the AP Mine Ban Convention, in Geneva, at the headquarters of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which will last till 21 June 2023.
At the meetings, with the participation of delegations from over 100 states, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, accomplished results will be presented, remaining obligations and challenges that are ahead of every state party in achieving a global goal – mine free world by 2025.
Delegation of the Republic of Serbia is comprised of SMAC Director, Bojan Glamočlija, Deputy Director, Jelena Krstić, Senior Advisor, Slađana Košutić, as well as representative of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN in Geneva, Andrej Stefanović.
The Republic of Serbia is to submit an Update on the progress of fulfillment of its obligations in accordance with Article 5, that is mine clearance in the Bujanovac Municipality and announce the commencement of the implementation of non-technical survey project of the areas contaminated with mines that were discovered after forest fires and explosions in this Municipality in 2019 and 2021. Implementation of this project, which will be accompanied by MRE activities in all settlements in this Municipality, will result in defining of the area contaminated with mines as a precondition for the development of a work plan and conduct of mine clearance projects for the remaining mine contaminated areas.
