US Diving Experts Visit SMAC and Expanded Business Capacities in Grocka
On the 7th February 2023, in the premises of the Serbian Mine Action Centre, SMAC Director, Mr Bojan Glamočlija met with experts from the USA, Tony Greenwood, Diving Technical Specialist from the Diving Safety Management Service and Phil Newsom, Executive Director of the Association of Diving Contractors International - ADCI, as well as Jovana Sokolović, Head of Innovation at SmartDives from the UAE.
This meeting was preceded by the workshop "Potential for the development and improvement of the commercial diving sector in Serbia", held on February 3, 2023, in the organization of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, as a unique opportunity where all stakeholders in underwater demining in the Republic of Serbia gathered together.
During this meeting, the SMAC Director informed the guests about the current situation regarding mines, cluster munitions, aerial bombs and other unexploded ordnance, which are still in the territory of Serbia, both on land and under water, as well as the needs and our country's priorities in the field of humanitarian demining and mine action as a whole.
Future directions of cooperation in the field of underwater demining in the Republic of Serbia were discussed at the meeting.
Also, on this occasion, the guests visited the expanded business capacities of the SMAC, i.e. a classroom with a training ground for deminers in Grocka, where in the previous period several international training courses from the area of mine action were held.
