On February 3, 2023, in the premises of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the workshop "Potential for the development and improvement of the commercial diving sector in Serbia" was held in the arrangement of the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI).

In addition to the Serbian Mine Action Centre, the River Flotilla of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Diving Units of the Gendarmerie, and the Special Anti-Terrorist Units participated in the workshop, presenting their work in the field of search and rescue on water and removal of unexploded ordnance.

In addition, among the participants were representatives of the academic community, as well as representatives of the commercial diving sector, users of diving services, regulatory institutions, with the aim of exchanging different experiences and raising awareness for the empowerment and growth of this sector.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about international standards and new regulations in the field of diving and underwater works, world achievements in the field of hydro technical works and the development of underwater robotic devices, as well as methodology and systems for diving.

Special guests were Tony Greenwood, vice president of the International Association of Oil Divers and diving technical specialist from the Diving Safety Management Services from Houston (USA), Phil Newsom, Executive Director of the Association of Diving Contractors International - ADCI and Jovana Sokolović, Head of Innovation at the company "SmartDives" from the UAE.

SMAC Director, Mr Bojan Glamočlija, on this ocassion presented projects for survey and removal of underwazer explosive remnants of war and pointed out the interaction of mine action and infrastructure development in the context of the current expansion of construction and the need to create conditions for the safe execution of infrastructure projects, both on land and under water, which are a prerequisite for future investments in the Republic of Serbia.

This workshop was a unique opportunity where all the actors in underwater demining in Serbia spoke about the challenges they face, the needs, as well as the solutions they apply in the field.
