SITE VISIT OF FUTURE PROJECTS IN BUJANOVAC

On October the 8th, 2020, in order to take into further consideration future funding of demining and cluster munitions clearance projects in the Municipality of Bujanovac, representative of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, Mr John Rutherford, as well as representative of ITF Enhancing Human Security, Mr Gregor Sančanin, together with representatives of Serbian Mine Action Centre (SMAC), Director Bojan Glamočlija, Assistant Director Jelena Krstić and representative of local Emergency Management Headquarters, Ali Aslani, visited the sites of 4 projects developed by SMAC.

The projects include Demining Project of the10 kV and 110kV transmission line route in the territory of the Bujanovac Municipality, Project for Technical Survey of the Bujanovac North (Djordjevac) site, as well as two cluster munitions clearance projects for sites "Borovac-3" and "Borovac-4".

The projects are expected to be implemented next year after the completion of tender procedures for the selection of contractors.

SMAC arranged this site visit in order to point out the complexity and severity of removal of groups of mines and cluster munitions that are still contaminating Bujanovac.

Furthermore, to point out that the implementation of these projects will eliminate danger for people and the environment, namely, it will enable safe exploitation of forests, cattle breeding, mushroom collecting, which is all for the population of this underdeveloped part of the Republic of Serbia of an invaluable importance.
