COMPLETION OF WORKS FOR „PANČIĆ’S PEAK - 2“ PROJECT ON KOPAONIK
On the 17th August 2020, implementation of cluster munitions clearance project from the Pančić’s Peak 2 site on Kopaonik, Municipality of Raška, total area 190.359 sqm, was completed following the demolition of found cluster munitions and UXO.
During the implementation of this project, contractor NGO "Stop Mines", Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, found 7 cluster bombs BLU-97 and 1 hand grenade M35, which were destroyed, in the presence of the SMAC, by members of the Sector for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.
Funds for the implementation of this project have been provided, through ITF Enhancing Human Security, by donations from the U.S.A. and the Republic of Korea.
Company “Minemon” d.o.o., Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been employed by ITF and donors as a monitoring organization on this project.
Implementation of this project contributed to elimination of a danger that cluster munitions pose to people and environment, and to an increase of safety of all the visitors of the National Park “Kopaonik”, as the largest tourist centre for winter sports in Serbia.
