Мedoševac project
Final quality control of the area cleared in accordance with Cluster Munitions Clearance Project for Medoševac Site, No. 0201/18, Municipality of Crveni Krst, City of Niš, carried out in the period 17-18 December 2019, with no critical errors identified, has provided conditions for the completion of field works.
During the implementation of this project, totaling 119,344 sqm, contractor "Stop Mines", Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, found 4 cluster bombs BLU-97, which were destroyed by members of the Sector for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.
The project has been financed by the funds of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, allocated for humanitarian demining operations in 2019, and matched through ITF Enhancing Human Security by the donation of the US State Department and the donation of the Republic of Korea.
The monitoring organization that was engaged by the donors and ITF was Minemon, Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The implementation of this project eliminated dangers posed by cluster munitions to humans and the environment.
Given that the site has about 300 plots, where backyard gardens, orchards and arable land next to the settlements, locals cultivated at their own risk, after the completion of this project, they can use them safely.
Furthermore, the football pitch used by the youth of the City of Niš can be used safely now.
