Operational exercise on the use of a drone in humanitarian demining
On 27 April, 2023, at the training ground of the Serbian Mine Action Centre in Grocka, in cooperation with the SMAC, the Military Academy and the Academy of Technical-Educational Vocational Studies - Niš Department, an operational exercise on the use of a drone in humanitarian demining was held.
On that occasion, the use of a drone in the field with real-time transmission to different locations was implemented. Namely, in the command and control operations center located in the headquarters of the SMAC, the transmission of the drone recording of the terrain at the given moment was monitored by an expert team comprised of the representatives of these three institutions, who were able to analyze and pass comments throughout the course of the process.
Bearing in mind the specificity and size of the problem related to the remaining mines and UXO in the Republic of Serbia, the lack of financial resources and the need to improve and strengthen the capacities of the Republic of Serbia in the field of humanitarian demining and mine action, the application of new technologies would contribute to a more efficient and faster elimination of the risks that mines and UXO pose both to human security and infrastructural development.
