Cooperation between SMAC and Protection and Rescue Directorate of North Macedonia
At the invitation of the Protection and Rescue Directorate of the Republic of North Macedonia, representatives of the Serbian Mine Action Centre visited this Directorate, in the period from March 13-16, 2023, in order to provide technical assistance and support in the detection of aerial bombs, by engaging its equipment and experts for the purpose of in-depth scanning of the terrain.
As a part of the visit, a meeting was held with Director of the Directorate, Mr Maksuti and the deputy directoror, Mr Zejnulai, which was attended also by representative of ITF Enhancing Human Security, Mr Sančanin.
They discussed the enhancement of cooperation through the initiative of the South Eastern Europe Mine Action Coordination Council (SEEMACC), whose members are the national bodies responsible for mine action from Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, as well as the ITF Enhancing Human Security from Slovenia.
The possibilities of implementing joint projects of our Center and the Directorate in correlation with infrastructure development, as well as the training of experts and demining personnel, with the support of the ITF, were discussed.
It was pointed out that this is the first cooperation between two institutions that will greatly contribute to the improvement of mine action in the region.
