Quality Control on ERW Clearance Project at the site for the construction of a bridge over the Danube River as part of the construction of the bypass around Novi Sad
On November the 1st, 2022, as a follow up activity of the implementation of the ERW Clearance Project at the site for the construction of a bridge over the Danube River as part of the construction of the bypass around Novi Sad, 0276/22, the Serbian Mine Action Centre carried out quality control of the works according to Part I of the Project which is divided into four phases and refers to the project area located on the mainland nearby the Danube River at the site where the bridge will be built.
As a reminder, during 1999 bombing, the City of Novi Sad was one of the most heavily bombed cities. The targets of the bombing were military, economic, traffic, health, educational, residential and many other civilian objects.
Given that the Bridge of Freedom over the Danube River was also destroyed during the bombing, it is reasonable to expect that there is ERW on suspected hazardous area.
The implementation of this project will eliminate the danger that ERW pose to the construction of the bridge and safety of people.
On this occasion, the control of part of the works according to the 2nd and 3rd phases was carried out, which includes an inspection of the areas on which the contractor "Millennium Team", ltd. Belgrade conducted depth recording up to 3 and 6 meters respectively.
On this occasion, the control did not establish any critical errors defined by this Project. During the execution of the works so far, the contractor has found weapon - a 5-frame automatic rifle with a certain amount of ammunition.
Also, the introduction of contractor into the 4th phase, which involves the use of the "bore hole" method, was carried out.
The Contractor continues the works in coordination with SMAC.
