INTRODUCTION INTO WORKS FOR „TUŠTICA” PROJECT IN BUJANOVAC
On the 7th September 2022, implementation of Demining Project of the "Tuštica” site, the Municipality of Bujanovac, totalling 143.500 sqm, commenced.
The project has been developed by the Mine Action Centre of the Republic of Serbia, which will supervise the project implementation and conduct quality control of the works. Contractor is NGO Stop Mines, Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project has been financed by the funds of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, allocated for the humanitarian demining operations in the Bujanovac Municipality, and matched through ITF Enhancing Human Security by the donation of the U.S. Government and the donation of the Republic of Korea.
Company “Trotil”, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been employed by ITF and donors as a monitoring organization on this project.
Demining of the site will contribute to an increase of safety of local population and provide possibilities for safe exploitation of forest, cattle grazing and picking of mushrooms, which are one of main sources of an income of local population. Furthermore, it will contribute to fulfilling of the obligations of the Republic of Serbia undertaken by the AP Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention).
