Representatives of the Serbian Mine Action Centre participated in the work of the 17th International Symposium - Mine Action 2021, which was held from 16 to 18 June 2021 in Novi Vinodolski, Republic of Croatia, and organized by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Mine Action Centre – Centre for Testing, Development and Training in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE Project Co-coordinator in Ukraine).

The Symposium was attended by experts in the field of mine action, representatives of donors, representatives of international humanitarian organizations, representatives of mine action centers from Southeast Europe, representatives of manufacturers of demining machines and equipment, protective equipment for deminers and other demining related equipment and tools.

Experiences and opinions were exchanged on the following topics:

  • Mine action system models;
  • Quality management in mine action;
  • Modern technologies in mine action;
  • Influence of mine action on the development of economic, energy and transport infrastructure;

    SMAC Director Mr. Bojan Glamočlija, within the topic "Mine action system models" had a presentation on mine action in the Republic of Serbia, where he presented the activities of the SMAC, as well as the current situation regarding mines and explosive remnants of war, but also the challenges and needs of Serbia in this area.

    Within the topic "Impact of mine action on the development of economic, energy and transport infrastructure", the director of the Center had a presentation entitled "Linking mine action and infrastructural development in the Republic of Serbia". He pointed out the interaction of mine action and infrastructural development in the context of the current expansion of construction and the need to create conditions for the safe execution of infrastructure projects, which are a precondition for future investments in the Republic of Serbia.

    On the margins of the Symposium, bilateral meetings were held with representatives of mine action centers from the region, Ukrainian state authorities in charge of mine action, as well as with ITF Enhancing Human Security and other donors.
