VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVES OF U.S. EMBASSY AND EUCOM
On May 13, 2021, Serbian Mine Action Centre, in its expanded business capacities, i.e. teaching premises with a site and ground for demining training, in Grocka, hosted representatives of the U.S. Embassy and the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) based in Stuttgart, FR Germany.
Ever since the foundation of SMAC, the U.S. Government has been one of the most important partners and donors in the field of humanitarian demining in Serbia, which is highly appreciated by SMAC and the Republic of Serbia.
Presentation on the current situation regarding mines and ERW, which can be still found in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the needs and priorities of our country in the field of humanitarian demining and mine action and development of training capacities, was held in a classroom equipped with replicas, exhibits and FFE’d ordnance of various origins (NATO, former Yugoslavia and former USSR), types and calibres, required to train an EOD course in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
Both SMAC and the U.S. Embassy have expressed interest in continuing cooperation and support to mine action in the Republic of Serbia, when it comes to clearing cluster munitions and ERW, as well as considering deepening cooperation in the field of training.
