Strengths and opportunities in
mine action

The UNMAS Geneva office prepared a short video excerpt of an informal virtual roundtable „Strengths and Opportunities in Mine Action”, held on the 7 April 2021.

On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the representative of SMAC pointed out, among other things, to the problem the Republic of Serbia is facing not only with mines, but also with other explosive remnants of war (ERW) and Serbia's full commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Ottawa Convention.

She also pointed out that due to the current expansion of construction industry and the need to create conditions for safe implementation of infrastructure projects, the number of requests for clearing the terrain from ERW has increased, and the SMAC, due to the need to train appropriate staff, has expanded business capacities, i.e. founded teaching premises with training ground and terrain, where EOD-Level 1 training course was held in the previous period, in full compliance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
