18 meeting of states parties to Ottawa

The Eighteenth Meeting of the States Parties (18MSP) to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transport of Antipersonnel Mines and on their Destruction (Ottawa Convention) was held in Geneva, from 16 to 20 November 2020.
Due to the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was held as a virtual event.
The 8MSP, presided over by Sudan, is a formal meeting of the 164 States Parties to the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.
The 18MSP was the first opportunity for the States Parties to assess progress in achieving the aims of the Oslo Action Plan adopted at the 2019 Fourth Review Conference. In this respect the 18MSP took stock of the current status of implementation of the Convention and established a baseline for the implementation of the Oslo Action Plan for years to come.
During the plenary sessions, it was highilgetd by the Serbian Delegation that the Republic of Serbia is fully committed to comply with all the provisions of the Ottawa Convention. Representative of the Republic of Serbia presented the current mine situation in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, results achieved, as well as challenges with a special focus on the problem of newly discovered areas that are suspected to be contaminated with groups of mines in the Municipality of Bujanovac.
