MINE DETECTION DOGS ENGAGED ON “KONČULJ – SINGERIT 1“ PROJECT

In the period 3-4 November 2020, representatives of Serbian Mine Action Centre introduced specially trained mine detection dogs and a dog handler into works on the Demining Project of the "Končulj-Singerit 1" site, the Municipality of Bujanovac.

After inspecting the site in the presence of monitoring organization - Trotil Ltd. Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of SMAC determined that the MDD method is possible on the part of the project where the vegetation and terrain configuration allow it.

For the purpose of this project, Contractor NGO IN Demining, Pale, Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be using 1 dog handler with 2 mine detection dogs.

A mine detection dog together with a dog handler can search a larger area in a shorter time, unlike a deminer with a detector, without compromising the precision and accuracy of work.

Dogs are trained to detect explosives (mines, UXO) by their sense of smell and visibly indicate contaminated area by searching the prepared area, i.e. a 10 m wide and 25 m long box. If there are no indications or the area has been cleared after the indications by a manual method, the area is considered cleared.
