COMPLETION OF WORKS ON BOROVAC 5 PROJECT
1-2 December 2022 saw the final quality control of the area cleared in accordance with Cluster Munitions Clearance Project for Borovac 5 Site, totalling 281.169 sqm, Municipality of Bujanovac. No critical errors were identified, which provided conditions for the completion of field works.
The project was funded by the US State Department donation and the donation by the Republic of Korea through ITF Enhancing Human Security.
The works were carried out by N.G.O. IN Demining, Pale, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the monitoring organization engaged by the donor and ITF was ,Eksploring” ltd., Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the implementation of the works, 2 pieces of cluster munitions BLU 97, 11 pieces of cluster munitions BLU 97 stabiliser, fragment of cluster munitions BLU 97 container and 2 pieces of UXO (82 mm mortar shells) were found and safely destroyed.
The implementation of this project eliminated dangers posed by cluster munitions to locals and the environment.
At the same time, clearance completion will provide opportunities for safe picking of mushrooms and woods exploitation, аs well as for increased safety in the use of a nearby military polygon.
