Participation of SMAC at International Conference on Humanitarian Mine Action and Sustainable Development Goals, March 30-April 1, 2022, Baku, Azerbaijan
From March 30 to April 1, 2022, Conference on Humanitarian Mine Action and Sustainable Development Goals is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, organized by the Government of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). SMAC is represented by Ms Jelena Krstić, Assistant Director.
About 120 participants from 30 countries are attending this conference, including the United Kingdom, Serbia, Switzerland, etc. The attendees are experts in the field of mine action, donor representatives, representatives of international humanitarian organizations (UNDP, UNMAS, ICRC, Marshal Legal Institute, USAID, MAG, ITF, etc.), representatives of mine action centers, as well as experts in related fields.
On the first day, participants visited a site in Aghdam, where the work of Azerbaijan National Mine Action Authority (ANAMA) has been presented through the work of deminers, as well as the use of demining equipment and tools.
In the continuation of the conference, the possibilities and efforts of the Government of Azerbaijan in mine action have been presented, with special emphasis on the role of demining in achieving long-term peace and socio-economic development.
The conference has also discussed practices, lessons learned, victim assistance and the latest technological innovations, including the management of mine action information that might be made available to other sectors.
